On 07/01/2013 at 10:55 p.m., the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a structure fire at 518 Bluff St.
Firefighter/paramedics were on scene within four minutes of receiving the call. Initial knockdown of the fire was accomplished by the first arriving engine staffed by two personnel due to the main fire engine being at the scene of a car accident.
The fire was contained to the garage and contents along with a small amount of charring to the exterior of the adjacent home. No one was in the garage at the time of the fire and all occupants of the home got out safely. There were no injuries suffered by residents or fire personnel.
Apparatus used on the scene included 2 fire engines, and 2 ambulances. A total of 8 full-time and 4 Paid-On-Call firefighters worked at the scene for 1 ½ hours. Also assisting at the scene was the Red Wing Police Department.
Due to the quick response and initial knockdown of the fire the adjacent house was spared of damage and all occupants were able to return to their home.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The mission of the Red Wing Fire Department is to enhance the safety and security of the community by providing cost effective protection of life and property, through fire prevention, public education, fire suppression and emergency medical care.
