The City of Red Wing and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) would like to inform you that the proposed reconstruction of US Highway 61 (Main Street) Phase 2 portion between Broad Street and Potter Street is anticipated to begin construction the week of March 14, 2016.  Initial operations will include temporary lane closures on TH 61 for installation of the construction traffic control to facilitate the beginning of pavement removal and utility work starting at Broad Street and working east towards Potter Street.  Access closures from side streets are expected and will change as construction progresses along the roadway.  Detours will be signed.

  • Construction will begin on southbound TH 61 first, starting on east side of Broad Street and ending east of Potter Street.
  • Construction on the northbound lanes will follow successful completion of southbound lanes.
  • The intersection of TH 61 & Bush or TH 61 & Plum Street will be open at all times during construction.
  • A truck detour for TH 61 is planned during construction utilizing County Road 21 and County Road 66 (Pioneer Road) with anticipated installation in late April 2016.
  • Project is to include utility improvements, roadway reconstruction, traffic signal and corridor aesthetic upgrades.
  • Weekly construction updates will be provided on the project website and through a project email list.

The scheduled completion date of this second and final phase is August 12, 2016.
