(September 24, 2010, Red Wing, Minn.) – Due to the recent rainfall, flooding is anticipated. The National Weather Service predicts the Mississippi river to be at 13.1 feet by next Thursday or Friday. This is the same level the river was at this past spring which is 3 feet above the Levee Wall. Red Wing Public Works staff have been preparing for flooding by staging barricades at Levee Rd., Levee Park, Collishan Rd, and at Sturgeon Lake Rd by the public boat launch. Benches and light poles have been removed from Levee Wall. If the river reaches this level, portions of Bay Point Park, Levee Park, and all of Colvill Park will be closed. Levee Road will also be closed between Broad St. and Jackson St. Staff will continue to monitor river readings and make any necessary changes.
Remember, do not drive through standing water. Roads and bridges may be washed out. Motorists are encouraged to stay alert and drive carefully through these areas and use alternate routes whenever possible.
