For Immediate Release
Date: October 1, 2012
On October 1, 2012, Goodhue County Sheriff, Scott McNurlin, issued a burning ban for Goodhue County in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
All burn permits issued within Goodhue County are suspended effective immediately. No new burn permits will be issued until the burning ban is lifted. The Red Wing Fire Department has also issued a ban on recreational fires while the burning ban is in place.
“Conditions outdoors are tinder dry”, said Fire Marshal, Andy Speltz. “Fire danger is high and will remain that way until significant rainfall is received.” Rainfall is predicted in small amounts towards the end of the week but the duration of the ban remains unknown.
Residents are encouraged to closely monitor their surroundings when cooking outdoors, performing activities involving heat or flame and to properly dispose of smoking materials such as cigarettes or matches.
The mission of the Red Wing Fire Department is to enhance the safety and security of the community by providing cost effective protection of life and property, through fire prevention, public education, fire suppression and emergency medical care.
