A Day of Action To End Domestic Violence Decreed

Tuesday, February 28 2017 4:12 PM

Advocates from the Hope Coalition joined Mayor Dowse at the lectern at last night’s City Council Meeting. They were there to show their support for a proclamation Mayor Dowse publically shared on behalf of the City of Red Wing declaring March 7, 2017, as A Day of Action To End Domestic Violence.  The proclamation comes in support of an effort to make March 7 a statewide day of action throughout all of Minnesota.  March 7 was chosen as the Day of Action to coincide with the beginning of budget discussions between state and federal legislators; budget discussions that will include funding for domestic and sexual violence victim services.  The statewide day of action also comes just one day before International Women’s Day.  There will be events happening simultaneously at noon across the state on that day.  The City of Red Wing is proud to have teamed up with the Hope Coalition in supporting an end to domestic violence in our community today, but also to have specifically joined our voice with those other advocates across Minnesota for a statewide call to action on March 7, 2017.
