On April 18, 2017, at approximately 12:06 AM, officers of the Red Wing Police Department responded to a report of an unconscious male lying on the sidewalk in the 400 Block of Sanderson Street. Upon officers arrival and further investigation, the male individual was determined to be deceased. The incident remains under investigation and the name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

Thousands of motorcyclists will kick off the unofficial start of the Minnesota motorcycle riding season during the “Spring Flood Run” Saturday, April 15. The route takes riders along the scenic Mississippi and St. Croix Valley roadways between the Twin Cities and Winona.
Motorists will need to use extra caution this weekend with as many as 30,000 motorcyclists riding between the Twin Cities and Winona for the event.

The Red Wing Police Department has partnered with Crime Stoppers of Minnesota to proactively increase ways that citizens can pass on information about crimes or fugitives while remaining anonymous. In addition to staying anonymous, persons giving tips may be eligible to collect up to $1,000 in reward paid by Crime Stoppers. On January 25, 2017, at approximately 10:54 PM, Red Wing Police Department Officers responded to 155 Burnside Avenue North for a report of shots being fired at that residence. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle drive past the residence at 155 Burnside Avenue, with rounds being fired at the home. No one was injured and the investigation continues.

On January 18, 2017, at approximately 9:29 a.m., Officers of the Red Wing Police Department responded to a report of an assault at 903 West 4th Street. Upon arrival, officers arrested Salvatore Stella. Initial investigation revealed that a Goodhue County Sheriff’s Deputy was serving civil papers to Mr. Stella when Stella attacked the Deputy. Red Wing Fire Department Ambulance staff assisted at the scene and transported the Deputy to Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Red Wing. The incident remains under investigation by the Red Wing Police Department.

On October 28th and 29th, 2016, the Red Wing Police Department will host 3ECHO Active Assailant training at Minnesota State College – Southeast (MSC-SE), 308 Pioneer Road, Red Wing. 3ECHO (Enter, Evaluate, Evacuate) is a new integrated response to a hostile situation that allows first responders to get medical personnel on-scene faster thereby reducing morbidity and mortality. The integration is completed as soon as possible during an event response with the goal of providing the ability to rescue viable victims while the response to the hostile event is ongoing.

The City of Red Wing Human Rights Commission is hosting the Tents of Witness: Genocide and Conflict exhibit. This traveling display contains canvas tents that depict the story of a different group that has been persecuted because of its identity: race, religion, ethnicity, or national origin.
These tents depict the catastrophes in Cambodia, Darfur, the Holocaust, and against the Native Americans.
