Preliminary Plans for New Transit Facility Unveiled

Wednesday, March 9 2011 12:00 AM

At the Council meeting on February 28th Council Member Dan Bender presented preliminary plans for the new Hiawathaland Transit Station and Red Wing Park and Ride Facility that is planned for construction in the summer of 2011. The project is made possible by a $500,000 grant award of Federal Stimulus funding. The project will be developed on a combination of City of Red Wing property and U.S. Highway 61 Right-of-Way and will be located adjacent to Highway 61 at Withers Harbor Drive (across from the Perkins Restaurant). Preliminary plans call for a 30 car Park and Ride lot and a 953 square foot Transit Station building that will include an office, waiting room, and restrooms. Hiawathaland Transit (Red Wing's bus transit provider) will use the new facility as a Transit Hub where riders can transfer from one route to another.
