The City Council approved an agreement with Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) for administration of federal funds for preliminary engineering to completed final design of the proposed Sturgeon Lake Road overpass over the Canadian Pacific Railroad at the Monday, January 24, 2011 Council meeting. Elements of the preliminary engineering will include reevaluating and amending the previous study's alignment and preliminary design; a preliminary Rail Station design to determine a possible Rail Station location and footprint; an updated aesthetics and bridge-type study; the design of a construction bypass route; the reconfiguration of affected intersections; updating of environmental documentation as required by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Regulations and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and in accordance with the approved Minnesota Highway Project Development Process (HPDP) Handbook; final design plans and construction documents for the roadways and bridge project; the calculation of construction cost estimates; right-of-way platting; and right-of-way acquisition. The City will be working closely with the Prairie Island Indian Community and MnDOT on this project. The City will be the lead agency for the project and has advertised a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to hire an engineering firm for this design work. RFQ responses are due by February 28, 2011.
Please contact Director of Engineering Ron Rosenthal at email@example.com if you are interested in responding to the RFQ or if you have any questions.
