I'm writing because as the Governor, Speaker Zellers and Majority Leader Koch made clear when describing the legislation that resolved the budget impasse and ended the state shutdown; "no one is going to be happy with this". And I'm certainly not happy or impressed with the significant property tax increases perpetuated on Minnesotans behind the pretext of "no new taxes", the looming reductions to the critical public services our community relies on, the exacerbation of inequality between Minnesota communities, nor the kick the whale down the road approach employed once again to put together a patchwork of accounting gimmicks to resolve the budget impasse. No one should be happy that at the end of the day our elected state officials took a horrible budget situation, perpetuated it, and made it worse.
