Special City Council Canvassing Board Meeting
The Red Wing City Council met on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 6:45 p.m. as the Canvassing Board to canvass the returns and declare the results of the General Election held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.
According to the official Abstract of Votes Cast, there were 9,324 people registered in the city as of 7:00 a.m. on Election Day. A total of 320 people registered to vote on Election Day. The Red Wing Police Department submitted a request to Governor Dayton’s office to declare October 1, 2014 as “Choose to be G.R.E.A.T. Day” in Minnesota, to demonstrate our commitment to providing meaningful prevention education to middle and elementary school youth with regard to youth violence, delinquency and bullying. Chief Pohlman has been involved with the G.R.E.A.T. program since 1999 and stated “this directly supports our efforts to provide our youth with these vital life skills”.

The Mississippi river reading as of 6:30 a.m. today is at 13.43 feet. The National Weather Service predicts the Mississippi river to be at 15.3 feet by Sunday morning, June 29th.
Roads closed as of today include: Levee Road between Jackson and Broad Streets, Ikata Drive, East 5th Street beneath the railroad track bridge, Sturgeon Lake Road at Frazier Street and the end of Collischan Road.
Colvill Park was closed on Sunday June 22nd and includes the Colvill Aquatic Center, all shelters and the boat launch.

Northdale Construction of Albertville, Minnesota will begin street reconstruction on West Avenue (between College Avenue/7th Street to Maple Street) beginning Monday, June 16th. Crews will be moving on to the project, setting up construction area traffic signs, and detour traffic signs. The Red Wing Heritage Preservation Commission is seeking nominees from the community for their annual Preservation Awards of Merit. Construction of Faribault, Minnesota will begin the second phase of the Burnside area street improvements on Cannon Bottom Road (from TH 61 to 235 feet northerly of Bridge No. 25549), Moundview Drive (Fronting BIC/Norwood Promotional Products), and South Service Drive (from Tyler Road South to 500 feet westerly) beginning July 16th.
