What has Downtown Main Street been doing for our community this year?

Executive Director, Megan Tsui, presented a summary of Downtown Main Street (DTMS) activities thus far in 2017 to the City Council on Monday, November 27, and the project list ranged from community branding to sustainability programs for downtown businesses. The City of Red Wing contracts with DTMS to provide services, and Tusi reported that the City contract represents roughly a third of the total income for DTMS. Free Christmas Lights & Cords Disposal

The Solid Waste Campus is pleased to announce that we will be accepting Christmas lights and old extension cords at no charge during the holiday season.  Starting November 24th, during the Holiday Stroll downtown, the drop off location will be in front of City Hall.  Once the stroll is complete, the drop off site will move out to the Solid Waste Campus. The drop off will continue through January 13th, 2018. The end date coincides with the Holiday Greens Disposal.

Memorial Park Drone Flights To Combat Oriental Bittersweet on November 29th

On Wednesday, November 29, 2017, the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture will be flying a drone above wooded areas of Sorin's Bluff/Memorial Park to test a process aimed to collect images of Oriental Bittersweet infestations.  Oriental Bittersweet is an invasive plant species that is spreading in the Red Wing area, including portions of Memorial Park.  The University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture are partnering with the City of Red Wing on Oriental Bittersweet management.  Ideally, the use of drones will assist management teams by findi…

Spectrum Service Outage Affects City on Wednesday, November 22

We're you trying to reach us last week?  On Wednesday, November 22, the City of Red Wing, along with every other Spectrum customer, experienced a service outage including our phones, internet, and television services.  All Spectrum services were down for nearly seven hours; especially unfortunate timing considering the Thanksgiving holiday that began on Thursday and involved the closing of all City buildings.  As a result, some phone calls and emails were not returned until Monday, November 27.  Thanks for your understanding, and check out this article published by the Republican Eagle for further details.

Lions Club Presents "Thank You" To The City

When Red Wing’s local Lions Club chapter was challenged to create a legacy project to commemorate the Lions Club centennial celebration they went big.  How big?  Four feet by twelve feet, to be exact.  That’s the size of the sculpture they installed this summer at Colvill Park.  The sculpture is called “Spectacles,” and pays homage to the Lions Club program of collecting and donating eyeglasses to those in need.  It was created by new Lions member, Justin Neufeldt, who generously donated him time to fabricate the steel eyeglass sculpture.  Since the sculpt…

Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule Announced

The City of Red Wing is providing the following schedule of building closures and services for the Thanksgiving Holiday Week. City Hall and the Public Works Building will all be CLOSED on both Thursday & Friday, November 23rd & 24th. The Red Wing Public Library will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 23rd, but will be OPEN during regular business hours on Friday, November 24th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday, November 25th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm The Solid Waste Campus will be CLOSED on both Thursday & Friday, November 23rd & 24th, but will be OPEN on Saturday, November 25th from 7:00 am…

2017 Amos Owen Award Winner, Kay Humphreys

Kay Humphreys has devoted a goodly portion of her life to protecting and safeguarding our human rights.  One of her more recent efforts resulted in Red Wing's adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in February of this year.  Red Wing is the fourth city in Minnesota to adopt CEDAW, and Humphreys' efforts to bring it to fruition were one of the reasons she was awarded the 2017 Amos Owen Award. Given annually by the Red Wing Human Rights Commission, the Amos Owen Award recognizes a local citizen who works to advance our human rights.  Th…

City Hall, Public Works, the Red Wing Public Library and the Solid Waste Campus will all be CLOSED on Friday, November 10th.  Refuse & Recycling Collection Schedule: Monday, November 6th – Normal Collection Tuesday, November 7th – Normal Collection Wednesday, November 8th – Normal Collection Thursday, November 9th – Normal Collection Friday, November 10th – NO COLLECTION
