The Lake Pepin Legacy Alliance (LPLA) is an organization that actively promotes actions to improve the ecological conditions in Lake Pepin. Much of their recent efforts have focused on the impacts from the suspended solids that are carried into the lake from the upstream Mississippi and Minnesota River Watersheds. These solids are deposited in the upper reaches of the Lake, and have drastically reduced the water depth, and destroyed aquatic weed beds and marshes. Have you heard of RAMBO yet? If the name didn’t catch your interest, the work ethic and achievements of this group will. They’re dedicated mountain bike enthusiasts who are doing all they can to make Red Wing a destination for riders of every level.
In the fifteen years that they’ve been meeting, the Red Wing Area Mountain Bike Association (RAMBO) has done a lot with very little. City Hall, Public Works, the Red Wing Public Library and the Solid Waste Campus will all be CLOSED on Monday, May 29th.

Memorial Day Observance. The Red Wing Memorial Day Committee will be hosting the 2017 Red Wing Memorial Day Observance to be held on May 29th. The Memorial Day ceremony will be held from 8:45 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. with Color Guards, Master of Ceremonies, Guest speakers, Musical Interludes by RWHS concert Band & Ovation Choir, Floral tributes with firing squad and artillery salutes and TAPS. Mayor Dowse has proclaimed May 21-27, 2017, as National Public Works Week in Red Wing, and with good reason. It’s a department that most of us rarely think about. We go about our day, drinking fresh water, flushing our toilets, and driving on safe roads without realizing the crews who work hard to make modern conveniences such as these our daily due.
