Water pressure can have a very significant impact on the amount of water used on both a utility wide and individual customer basis.  In a perfect world, water would be supplied to each customer at the ideal pressure, say 50 pounds per square inch (psi).  In reality, this is not feasible, particularly in a city like Red Wing with fairly large differences in elevation, and long runs of older, and sometimes undersized water mains.  One of the local water softening equipment suppliers recently sent their customers a flyer that stated that the City had made changes in the water distribution system t…

Extra Patrols on Red Wing Roads November 25th through January 2nd

Turkey, stuffing and unfortunately, DWIs are all a part of Thanksgiving and other holiday celebrations this time of year. As people get together for the holidays, Red Wing Police Department, along with other Goodhue County Law Enforcement, will be taking drunk drivers off the road as they conduct extra DWI patrols. The extra enforcement campaign starts November 25 and runs on weekends through January 2, 2016. New Pedestrian Signal Added as Part of Hwy 61 Reconstruction Project

Pedestrians and motorists will encounter a new pedestrian crossing signal on Highway 61 in Red Wing that was installed as part of the Main Street reconstruction Project.  Located near Kwik Trip between Hill and Franklin Streets, the system is a High-intensity Activated Crosswalk or HAWK system that combines a beacon flasher and traffic control signaling technique to allow pedestrians safe crossing of a roadway while also keeping traffic flow working when there are not pedestrians or when pedestrians have safely cleared the vehicles' driving path.  The system is one of just three on state highways i…

Broad Street Closed at the Railroad Crossing Beginning November 9th

Meyer Contracting, the contractor reconstructing Levee Road from Broad Street to Jackson Street, will be constructing the watermain for the project in the area of the Canadian Pacific (CP) Railroad tracks on Broad Street; and CP will be constructing upgrades to the railroad crossing on Broad Street, beginning on Monday, November 9, 2015. This construction will require constructing the watermain under the railroad tracks, replacing the railroad track approach panels, and replacing the railroad track rails.
