2015 Fall Yard Waste Clean-up Dates Announced

Residents can dispose of grass, leaves and compostable or organic yard waste year-round FREE OF CHARGE. Residents may also dispose of brush at the brush and compost site at the Solid Waste Campus, located at 1873 Bench Street, for a charge. However, these charges are waived for residents from OCTOBER 3RD  thru NOVEMBER 14TH, 2015.  During this time, Red Wing residents may dispose of brush and shrub trimmings free of charge. The hours for the Bench Street compost and yard waste site are: Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sundays – CLOSED …

Bush Street Lane Closures, Beginning Week of 9/21

The City of Red Wing Public Works Department will be closing a lane of traffic on various portions of Bush Street beginning the week of September 21st for boulevard tree removal.  The area affected is the portion of Bush Street between 10th and 17th Streets. Crews will be removing boulevard trees in the area and the lane closures will occur only during working hours in the specific area of removal. Traffic control will be in place with flagmen present.  This closure is expected to last 2 to 3 weeks.  Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area. City crews appreciate the cooperation and patience…

Barn Bluff Fall Hikes Scheduled

The Red Wing Advisory Planning Commission is pleased to announce a series of Barn Bluff Hikes for the purpose of inviting the public to learn about the park as a first step in the Barn Bluff Master Plan process. Hikes have been scheduled for Thursdays in late September and early October from 5:30 to 6:45 PM. Levee Road Closed at RW Grain - 9/17 & 9/18, 2015

Xcel Energy will be performing gas service work on Levee Road at Red Wing Grain from Thursday Morning, September 17, 2015 till noon on September 18, 2015, necessitating the closure of Levee Road. Temporary Closure of City Hall Entrance

On Friday, September 18th, the east entrance to City Hall on the Plum Street side of the building will be closed.  This will restrict use of the handicapped ramp and accessibility to the building using this entrance.  City Hall will remain open with access available from the Fourth Street side of the building.  This closure is expected to last one day only. The contractor will be removing and replacing the spalled concrete outside the doors at the east entrance to the building.  The work is needed to ensure patron safety and is being completed as part of the City Hall masonry restoration …

Closure of Ole Miss Marina Boat Ramp and Bay at Colvill Park

Ole Miss Marina Boat Ramp and Bay will remain closed to river traffic throughout the weekend due to an oil spill.  The Ole Miss Marina Boat Ramp and Bay will remain closed for several days due to the release of an oil-based product into the bay on Thursday, September 10,2015.  The spill was contained to the harbor area with no release to the main channel. Red Wing Police Department 2015 Police Academy

The Red Wing Police Department will be putting on a Citizens Academy this fall starting October 13th. The Citizen’s Academy is a community awareness program that offers residents a first hand look at the internal police, fire and emergency management and code enforcement operations. The Academy encompasses a total of 18 hours of presenations from various public safety personnel. Applications are now being taken for the 2015 Academy. 2nd Annual Guns Vs. Hoses Event

The Police Department and Fire Department will be battling it out on Saturday, September 12th in a fun filled softball game. The event will be held at the Red Wing Athletic Field starting at noon.   From noon to 1:00 pm there will be “Dunk a Chief” with Fire Chief Schneider and Police Chief Pohlman. Red Wing Neighborhood Residents, Property Owners Vote Against Noise Wall

The following is a News Release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, dated Sept. 11, 2015   ROCHESTER, Minn. – Red Wing property owners and residents voted against constructing a noise wall along Highway 61/63 south of a planned new Mississippi River bridge, according to the Minnesota and Wisconsin departments of transportation. The votes were cast by affected property owners and occupants in a Red Wing neighborhood. It included 42 properties. The no votes prevailed with 56 percent. Portion of College Avenue Closed Beginning 9/24/15

Asplundh Tree Service will be removing trees for Xcel Energy in the 700 and 800 blocks of College Avenue on Thursday and Friday, September 24th and 25th. College Avenue will be closed at Hill Street on the downhill side of the College Avenue wall.
