Hwy 61 Reconstruction Project Open House, December 4, 2014

The City of Red Wing invites anyone with an interest in the Highway 61 (Main Street) Project to attend a public Open House, scheduled for Thursday, December 4th from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM at the Red Wing Public Library, Foot Room (225 East Ave, Red Wing). A formal presentation will begin at 5:30 pm.   The City of Red Wing and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will reconstruct US Highway 61 (Main Street) between Old West Main Street and Potter Street beginning in 2015. Council Approves Frozen Water Service Policy

The 2013-2014 winter season provided extremely cold conditions which drove the frost to depths that haven’t been seen in the last twenty years.  Many water services froze, causing property owners to deal with the situation. The City has approximately 102 miles of public water distribution mains, 976 fire hydrants and 6200 services within its water distribution system. Special City Council Canvassing Board Meeting The Red Wing City Council met on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 6:45 p.m. as the Canvassing Board to canvass the returns and declare the results of the General Election held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. According to the official Abstract of Votes Cast, there were 9,324 people registered in the city as of 7:00 a.m. on Election Day. A total of 320 people registered to vote on Election Day. There were a total of 599 accepted absentee ballots bringing the total number of persons voting in the city of Red Wing to 5,426. Those figures amount to a 58 percent voter turno…

Minnesota DNR to Conduct Controlled Prescribed Burns on Sorin’s Bluff Today Nov. 3, 2014

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Conservation Corps of Minnesota in cooperation with the City of Red Wing will be conducting  controlled prescribed burns of the planted prairies on Sorin’s Bluff on Monday, November 3, 2014.  The purpose of the burns is to reduce invasive species in these areas and to stimulate existing prairie plants.  The burns are an important step of a long range management plan to preserve and enhance the native and restored prairie communities within the City of Red Wing.  The schedule for the prescribed burns is dependent on weather a…
