Segments of the Memorial Park trail system are currently under construction. Minnesota Legacy funding and private contributions are currently being used to make improvements to the cross country ski trails. The project involves widening the trail, smoothing out some of the grades, and the rerouting of a segment of the trail to eliminate a dangerous steep slope and sharp turn in order to address safety and trail maintenance standards. The entire trail will be final graded and seeded. We are sorry for any temporary inconvenience.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Conservation Corps of Minnesota in cooperation with the City of Red Wing will be conducting a controlled prescribed burn of the native prairie and Oak savanna on the western end of Barn Bluff on Monday, October 27. The purpose of the burn is to reduce invasive species in these areas and to stimulate existing native plants. The burn is an important step of a long range management plan to preserve and enhance the native prairie communities within the City of Red Wing. The City of Red Wing Public Works Department will be closing the parking lot along the Mississippi River at the intersection of Broad Street and Levee Road beginning Monday, October 20th. The parking lot will be closed for three to four weeks for the reconstruction of the Levee Road sewer system. Levee Road will remain open, but may be reduced to a single lane at times during the reconstruction project.
This closure is expected to last approximately three to four weeks, reopening as soon as the work has been completed. Traffic control will be in place. Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area.
