The City of Red Wing will be conducting a smoke test of the sanitary sewer system in the downtown area this Fall. The information contained in the attached notice is important and residents in the downtown area are encouraged to read it carefully. Notice of Fall Hydrant Flushing

City crews will begin flushing all City mains and hydrants beginning October 4, 2010 at 6:00 a.m. Some rusty water may be expected while flushing. Flushing is done once in the spring and once in the fall to check fire hydrants for operation and also to flush any rust out of the mains that may have accumulated since the last flushing. Flooding Update

(September 24, 2010, Red Wing, Minn.) – Due to the recent rainfall, flooding is anticipated. The National Weather Service predicts the Mississippi river to be at 13.1 feet by next Thursday or Friday. This is the same level the river was at this past spring which is 3 feet above the Levee Wall.  Red Wing Public Works staff have been preparing for flooding by staging barricades at Levee Rd., Levee Park, Collishan Rd, and at Sturgeon Lake Rd by the public boat launch.  Benches and light poles have been removed from Levee Wall.  If the river reaches this level, portions of Bay Point Park, Lev…

Red Wing Firefighter/Paramedics Respond To Train Derailment

At 0727 the Red Wing Fire Department responded to a train derailment at the Nestle Purina Plant in Hager City. Engine 11, Ladder 1, Medic 4 and the Fire Chief responded and arrived on scene within five minutes of receiving the call. Firefighter/paramedics assisted the Ellsworth Fire Department on scene. The Ellsworth Fire Department Maintained command of the incident until all threats of fire and hazardous materials release were minimized. The Nestle Purina Plant and approximately 14 nearby residents were temporarily evacuated. No hazardous materials were released.   The train struck the County VV brid…

Red Wing Firefighter/Paramedics Respond to Structure Fire

(9/11/210, Red Wing, Minn.) – On 9/10/2010 at 9:03 pm, the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a structure fire at 312 Tyler Rd South.   Firefighter/paramedics were on scene within 8 minutes of receiving the call and utilized defensive and exterior firefighting techniques to combat the fire.  The fire was extinguished approximately two hours after arrival.
