Red Wing students on their way home from Ikata, Japan

A group of Red Wing students are on their way home today from Ikata, Japan with their chaperone, Tom Brase, Chairman of the Red Wing Sister Cities Commission.  Pictures of the students and a blog following their adventures is available here.  The Sister Cities Commission promotes cultural exchange between cities of different nations to foster strengthened economics, world peace and a greater understanding of the world issues. City Council Adopts Resolution No. 6137 Supporting Maintenance of Library Contract

At its July 26 regular meeting, Red Wing City Council adopted Resolution No. 6137 supporting a maintenance of library contract with Goodhue County for 2008-2012.  The resolution requests Goodhue County honor the funding level as stated in the current agreement for Library Services for 2008 – 2012 as approved and signed by the Goodhue County Board of Commissioners on November 20, 2007.  The resolution will be forwarded to Goodhue County to indicate the City's position on the City/Goodhue County/SELCO agreement.  Click here to view the resolution.

Nominations Sought for Human Rights Award

Colleen Haley, Commissioner, Human Rights Commission  Since 2001, the annual Amos Owen Award has recognized an individual in the community for their work in promoting and ensuring others’ human rights. The award’s namesake was a Prairie Island Mdewakanton elder and spiritual leader who worked tirelessly to preserve Dakota language and culture. Council Approves Request to Install Irrigation System and Minor Repairs on Soccer Fields at AP Anderson Park.

City Council at its July 26th Meeting approved a request to install an irrigation system and minor repairs on three soccer fields at AP Anderson Park. A letter from the Red Wing Soccer Club was sent to the Public Works Department requesting the installation of an irrigation system on three soccer fields at AP Anderson Park. The request was forwarded to the Community Recreation Joint Powers Board for a recommendation. City Council Approves Water Model Distribution Study

On July 26th, the Red Wing City Council authorized staff to execute a contract with SEH to assist with the development of a computer model of the water distribution system and to develop and analyze alternatives to improve the water supply and pressure in portions of the east end of the City. Portions of the eastern section of the City of Red Wing were found to have low water pressure during routine flow testing by the Fire Department earlier this year. 2009 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report Marshall Hallock, Director, Finance Department The accounting firm of Abdo, Eick & Meyers, LLP recently concluded their audit of the city’s 2009 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The City of Red Wing was issued the highest audit opinion possible - an unqualified opinion.
