Old West Main Street Closed October 29 and 30

Lynn Nardinger, Deputy Director, Public Works Department  The City of Red Wing Public Works Department will be closing Old West Main Street to repair a water main break October 29 and 30. The area of repair is located at the intersection of Jackson Street and Old West Main Street. Repaving will begin next week with limited access for vehicles. Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area.City crews appreciate the cooperation and patience of neighbors, drivers and pedestrians during this time of inconvenience. Motorists are encouraged to stay alert and drive carefully through all work zones and use alternate routes whenever possible. 

Residents Help Needed to Keep Leaves off the Streets and Out of the River

Paul Drotos, Environmental Officer, Public WOrks Red Wing's federal Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan requires good housekeeping practices, including keeping grass and leaves off of the street and therefore out of the Mississippi River. Most stormwater in Red Wing goes straight to the river, so raking yard waste onto streets, sidewalks and driveways results in water pollution. City of Red Wing code states that it is a misdemeanor to place yard waste, including leaves and grass clippings, on city streets or sidewalks where it can be washed into the river.
