The Investigation Division provides investigative services in city law enforcement matters. The Investigation Division consists of three Investigators: Katie Gernentz, General Investigations; Tom Rikli, General Investigations; and Keegan Quinn, who primarily does investigations regarding narcotics; and two School Resource Officers - Ryan Sullivan and Brian Metling: School Resource Officers.
New cases are initiated after receiving information developed through relationships with public agencies, businesses and residents. Investigators initiate cases and assist the Patrol Unit with incidents that require additional investigation. After the investigation is completed, the cases are then presented to the Goodhue County Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Priority is placed on violent crimes such as sexual assault, assault, robbery and death investigations. Identity theft is on the rise and many cases have been successfully investigated. Theft and Identity Theft.
The City of Red Wing Investigation Division is a member of the South East Minnesota Narcotics/Gang Task Force, SEMN/GTF. This membership is comprised of investigators from Red Wing, Rochester, Winona, Austin and Kasson and from counties including Goodhue, Olmsted, Winona, Fillmore, Wabasha, Mower, Dodge and Houston. The SEMNTF is supported, in part, by a federal grant and governed by a board with representatives from each member agency.
