To help celebrate, the Red Wing Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) annually presents its Awards of Merit to individuals, institutions, and businesses who have been involved in exceptional local historic preservation projects.

The Anderson Center

The Anderson Center’s historic water tower is known as a prominent landmark in Red Wing. Built in 1915, the tower is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Recently, the Anderson Center secured a $107,500 grant from the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Program to repair and prevent future damage to the tower’s balcony. Previously, the center received a grant to assess the balcony’s damage and determine what work needed to be done.

Red Wing Grain

Surrounded by fertile farmland, and located on a bend in the Mississippi River, Red Wing has historically been an ideal location for a riverboat port. So much so, that in 1873, Red Wing was “the largest primary wheat market in the world”. Some 146 years later, Red Wing Grain is continuing to carry on this tradition, only with corn and soybeans.
