The Solid Waste Division provides management and support services for the collection and disposal of refuse and recyclable materials for the residents, commercial and industrial users, and institutions in the City of Red Wing. This budget is divided into four main areas; Revenues, Refuse Collection, Recycling Collection and Administration.
Jeff Schneider was hired as the Deputy Director of Solid Waste for the Public Works Department on June 29, 2009. Jeff has an AA degree in Liberal Arts from Rochester Community College, a BS in Biology specializing in Cell & Modecular Biology. Jeff also entered the graduate Environmental Sciences program at the U of M, Mankato.
Prior to joining the City, Jeff was employed with the State of Minnesota, Pollution Control Agency beginning first with the Agency after Graduate School as a Construction Storm Water Inspector out of the Rochester and Mankato offices of the MPCA. Jeff then moved on to the MPCA’s Southeast District Solid Waste as a Planner Coordinating and providing technical assistance to 20 Counties in SE Minnesota, including Goodhue County.
Most Recently Employed by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency as the State Recycling Coordinator, Jeff developed and managed the PCA’s Municipal Waste Collection Systems Study that looked at the economic, environmental and infrastructural impacts associated with various waste collection systems. He was also a member of the PCA’s internal core team for the statewide solid waste stakeholder process to develop regional strategies for reducing Green House Gas emissions by 52.5 million metric tons of Co2 equivalents by 2025.
Jeff oversees the operations and staff of the City’s Integrated Solid Waste Management Campus (formerly the Incinerator) as well as the Refuse and Recycling collection crews. He is an advocate of managing waste properly to do the right thing environmentally and to avoid the potential for long term liability and environmental impacts of poor waste management practices.
