The Red Wing Police Department was established in 1887. Prior to that time, the city employed constables for law enforcement. The Police Department provides the community with traditional police services including: Patrol, Investigations, Evidence Technician, K-9 Unit, and Crime Prevention. The Police Department continues to employ and train a highly motivated and skilled team, preserving the highest ethical standards with an unyielding dedication to service.

Police Chief's Message

“On behalf of the members of one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the nation, I would like to welcome you to the Red Wing Police Department.

The Red Wing Police Department is proud to serve the citizens of Red Wing and those who visit our great community. With a modern and skilled force of 26 community-oriented police officers and seven very hard-working and dedicated support staff.

It has been the practice of the Red Wing Police Department to provide the highest level of service possible to ensure the safety, welfare and happiness of those who call Red Wing their home, as well as those who visit Red Wing.

Tim Sletten has been a member of the Red Wing Police Department since 1979 and Police Chief since December, 2003. Tim has held many positions during his career with Red Wing including Deputy Director, Lieutenant, Juvenile school liaison Officer and Patrol Officer.
