Early Spring Tree Pruning

You may have noticed crews out pruning trees in and around the City. Some of these crews are with the City of Red Wing, and some are contracted through utility companies to maintain clearance for overhead utility lines and pipeline corridors.  Early spring is a good time to prune trees, as they are still dormant yet more accessible once the snow is gone.  Pruning is done for a variety of reasons, with the extensiveness of the pruning depending upon the need.  The City prunes trees along streets and in parks for safety, tree health, and aesthetics, with safety being the top priority.  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Thursday, March 2, 2017 MDA encourages residents to look for signs of EAB An MDA employee noticed an ash tree with significant woodpecker damage, a tell-tale sign of possible EAB infestation, during a hike over the weekend at Barn Bluff. She took photos of the tree and noted the location. After further investigation, the MDA found EAB larvae in the tree.
