The City of Red Wing currently has four projects that may qualify for funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The ARRA program anticipates spending more than $10 million throughout the state to provide partial funding for lighting upgrades, energy efficient windows, and other cost-effective energy projects ready for immediate implementation. These projects, once completed, would reduce operational expenses for the City of Red Wing by reducing energy consumption and staff time spent repairing old systems.

Projects that may qualify for funding through this grant include the completion of the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system at the library, replacement of the HVAC system at the Public Works Building, replacement of six windows at the Goodhue County History Center and the final phase of the City Hall reconstruction project. The total budgeted amount to complete these projects is around $609,000. The City of Red Wing is hoping the grant will pay up to 25 percent of project costs equaling approximately $152,000.

If the City of Red Wing is awarded a grant for any of these four projects, the City Council would have the final decision whether or not to accept the grants and complete the projects. All the projects would be funded through the General Fund.
