Red Wing Firefighter/Paramedics Respond To Train Derailment

train derailmentAt 0727 the Red Wing Fire Department responded to a train derailment at the Nestle Purina Plant in Hager City. Engine 11, Ladder 1, Medic 4 and the Fire Chief responded and arrived on scene within five minutes of receiving the call. Firefighter/paramedics assisted the Ellsworth Fire Department on scene. The Ellsworth Fire Department Maintained command of the incident until all threats of fire and hazardous materials release were minimized. The Nestle Purina Plant and approximately 14 nearby residents were temporarily evacuated. No hazardous materials were released.

 

The train struck the County VV bridge, causing the Pierce County Highway Department to close the bridge. The scene was released to BNSF railroad and Nestle at approximately10:15. Resources on scene included the Ellsworth Fire Department, Ellsworth Area Ambulance, Pierce County Highway Department, Pierce County Sheriffs Department and the Railroad. The Red Wing Fire Department responds to fire and emergency incidents in Hager City under an automatic aid agreement with the Ellsworth Fire Department.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident. train
