Red Wing Firefighter/Paramedics Respond to Bus Fire

(11/27/2011 Red Wing, Minn.) - On 11/27 at 20:43, the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a bus fire at the AmericInn, 1819 Old West Main St.

Firefighter/paramedics were on scene within 3 minutes of receiving the call and found heavy smoke and flames emitting from the cargo compartment of a chartered coach type bus.

Flames quickly spread through the floor of the bus into the interior, causing extensive damage.

3 passengers attempting to retrieve personal belongings were treated and transported by Red Wing Ambulance to Fairview Medical Center for smoke inhalation.  None of the injuries appeared life threatening.  No injuries to fire personnel were reported.

The bus is owned by Miles Cooper of Shelby, North Carolina and was chartered by the cast and crew of the Church Basement Ladies who are performing at the Sheldon Theater.

2 Engines and 9 firefighters were on scene for 3 hours.

Firefighters utilized positive pressure attack tactics to extinguish the fire.  The fire was under control within 45 minutes.  Red Wing Fire personnel remained on scene for an additional 2 hours conducting overhaul operations and investigating.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
