Red Wing Firefighter/Paramedics Respond to a Natural Gas Line Breach

On Monday May 14th at 1204pm, the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a natural gas leak near the intersection of Twin Bluff and Pioneer Roads.

Firefighter/paramedics were on scene within three minutes of receiving the call to assess the situation.        

Investigation revealed that a utility company inadvertently breached a residential gas service resulting in a significant natural gas release. 

With the aid of Xcel Energy gas crews, the danger was assessed and a section of Hay Creek Road was closed off for app. 1 hour.   Other than the immediate vicinity, there was no danger to the general public or Twin Bluff Middle School.  As a precaution, the Middle school shut down their outside air handling units for app. 45 minutes.

Apparatus used on the scene included one fire engine and two ambulances. A total of 7 full-time firefighters responded to the call.
