Public invited to attend Recodification Open House

Monday, November 8 2010 12:00 AM

City staff and City Council Members will be hosting an Open House spotlighting the Recodification of the Red Wing City Code on Monday, November 15, 2010, at the Red Wing Public Library from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The City Code is a compilation of all of the ordinances (city laws) that have been adopted over the past 25 years and encompasses every aspect of city law such as parking and traffic regulations, streets and sidewalks, liquor licensing, construction and housing regulations and permits, utilities, zoning, subdivision regulations, and public protection.

The purpose of the Recodification effort has been to review the existing City Code and make revisions that have the following intent:

  • Clarify language
  • Update the City Code so that it is in compliance with state and federal law
  • Update the City Code in terms of current city organizational structure and procedures
  • Update the City Code so that internal code references are corrected and brought up to date
  • Revise procedures and processes that match current methods
  • Update the City Code references to outside agencies and standards
  • Other general modifications that improve readability, organization, and understandability.

The City of Red Wing is dedicated to the ongoing health and well being of its residents. With its tradition of growth, stability and innovation, city leadership continues to maintain a proactive approach and a firm commitment to businesses, history, natural resources and, most important, the Red Wing community.
