City of Red Wing

Wednesday, August 29 2012 12:00 AM

The City of Red Wing Public Works Department will be closing the portion of Levee Road from the bulkheads west to Withers Harbor Drive beginning Tuesday, September 4th. The road will be closed to traffic for the US Army Corps of Engineers to do emergency dredging of the Mississippi River. The dredging will include the removal of approximately 20,000 to 40,000 yards of material to keep the river open to barge traffic. The work is expected to be completed in 2-4 weeks depending on the amount of material that will need to be dredged.

The street would be closed Monday through Friday, however would revert back to the current single lane restriction on Saturdays and Sundays.

Traffic control will be in place.  Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area.

City crews appreciate the cooperation and patience of neighbors, drivers and pedestrians during this time of inconvenience. Motorists are encouraged to stay alert and drive carefully through all work zones and use alternate routes whenever possible.
