Due to the recent rainfall, flooding is anticipated. The Mississippi river reading as of 9:00 a.m. today is at 11.48 feet. The National Weather Service predicts the Mississippi river to be at 14.3 feet by next Thursday, June 26th.
Roads closed as of today include Levee Road between Jackson and Broad Streets, Ikata Drive, East 5th Street beneath the bridge, Sturgeon Lake Road at Frazier Street and the end of Collischan Road. Water begins to come into Bay Point and Colvill Parks when the river readings reach 12 and 13 feet. Colvill Park will remain open through Saturday, June 21st, but will be closed starting Sunday, June 22nd. This includes the Colvill Aquatic Center, all shelters and the boat launch. The park will remain closed until the river level drops. Bay Point Park will have areas with limited access, but the boat launch should remain open.
Staff will continue to monitor river readings, provide updates as needed and make any necessary changes. Updates will be posted on the City of Red Wing website at www.red-wing.org and on Facebook.
Remember; do not drive through standing water. Roads and bridges may be washed out. Motorists are encouraged to stay alert and drive carefully through these areas and use alternate routes whenever possible.
