Red Wing Police Investigate School Bus Incident

On May 16, 2017 at approximately 7:12 AM a School Bus carrying elementary and middle school students reported that students on the bus were coughing and complaining of throat irritation. First Student bus immediately pulled the bus to side of the road and evacuated the students from the bus. Another bus arrived to complete the transportation of students to school, while the original bus was taken back to the bus garage for a thorough evaluation. Red Wing Public School District requested the assistance of the Red Wing Police Department to assist with investigation of the incident. First Student conducted a thorough inspection of the bus with no discrepancies located. Upon interview of the students involved and follow-up with First Student bus, the origin of the irritant remains unknown. UPDATE: May 16, 2017 at approximately 5:30 PM. Red Wing Public School District Elementary Principal notified the Red Wing Police Department that a girl admitted to releasing pepper spray on the bus. Red Wing Public School District is notifying parents and working on the appropriate response for the student that released the pepper spray.
