Red Wing Police Department Investigating School District Threat

On 12-18-2012 at approximately 2:59 PM, the Red Wing Police Department received a report from a High School Senior that someone called her home phone number stating “your school is next”.  The caller then hung up.  Then on 12-19-2012 at approximately 8:30 AM, a report was made by First Student Bus Company that a student found some .22LR rounds on a bus.  This most recent report prompted the Red Wing Public Schools to initiate a District wide “external lock down”, meaning that external access to the schools are being monitored and controlled.  Shortly after the lock down was initiated a student came forward and reported that the .22LR rounds were his, and that they were forgotten in his jacket from coyote hunting, thereby confirming that the bus activity is unrelated to the general threat.

Investigation into the threat is continuing, which will limit the amount of information available.  Updates will be provided as they become available.  Law enforcement related questions should be directed to Chief Roger Pohlman at 651-267-2610.  Red Wing School District related questions concerning school operations should be directed to 651-385-4502.
