The week of May 15th - 21st, 2016, is National Police Week. Click here to view the National Police Week Proclamation. In honor of National Police Week, there will be a Peace Officer Memorial Day Service held on May 16th, at 12:00 noon at the Goodhue County Law Enforcement Rotunda. Guest speaker will be Erin Kuester, Assistant Goodhue County Attorney. After the service, refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend the service.
The Red Wing Police Department will again be hosting our annual Bicycle Rodeo on Saturday, May 14th, 2016 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. The Rodeo will be held at the Goodhue County Law Enforcement Center parking lot at 430 West 6th Street in Red Wing. A bicycle safety course will be set up for the kids to ride their bicycles through and learn safety rules. Kids should bring their own bicycles. Free hot dogs and pop will be provided for all kids who participate. Many prizes and several bicycles will also be given away. The Rodeo is a fun and educational experience for the kids in the community!!
On December 1, 2015 at approximately 12:18 PM, Officers of the Red Wing Police Department were dispatched to 408 West Avenue for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was treated at the scene by Red Wing Fire Department paramedics and transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Red Wing. A suspect is being questioned in connection with this investigation, and there is no danger to the general public. Turkey, stuffing and unfortunately, DWIs are all a part of Thanksgiving and other holiday celebrations this time of year. As people get together for the holidays, Red Wing Police Department, along with other Goodhue County Law Enforcement, will be taking drunk drivers off the road as they conduct extra DWI patrols. The extra enforcement campaign starts November 25 and runs on weekends through January 2, 2016.

The Red Wing Police Department will be putting on a Citizens Academy this fall starting October 13th. The Citizen’s Academy is a community awareness program that offers residents a first hand look at the internal police, fire and emergency management and code enforcement operations. The Academy encompasses a total of 18 hours of presenations from various public safety personnel. Applications are now being taken for the 2015 Academy. The Police Department and Fire Department will be battling it out on Saturday, September 12th in a fun filled softball game. The event will be held at the Red Wing Athletic Field starting at noon. From noon to 1:00 pm there will be “Dunk a Chief” with Fire Chief Schneider and Police Chief Pohlman. Meet and Greet K-9’s and the mascots. There will also be face painting, emergency vehicle tours, shirt sales and much more. The softball game begins at 1:00 pm.

Officer Adam Crain of the Red Wing Police Department was named to the 2013 Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety (DPS/OTS) DWI Enforcer All-Star team for his efforts to prevent alcohol-related crashes and resulting tragedies. Officer Crain arrested 34 drunk drivers in 2013.
Officer Crain, a five year veteran of the agency, was among 37 law enforcement representatives and prosecutors on the DWI Enforcer All-Star team from the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota. This is the firsttime Officer Crain has been named an All-Star.

On April 30, 2014, at 6:30 PM, the Hope Coalition “Kid’s Count” program held a Candlelight Vigil for Child Abuse Awareness. Gage Robinson and his mother, Penny, were the guest speakers. It was quite an emotional evening, with many of the surviving children from child abuse and neglect participating in the program.
