There were a lot of police at Walmart on Saturday, did you see them? No, they weren’t responding to an emergency; they were shopping! The seventh annual FOP Cops and Kids Christmas Shopping Event was underway and twenty local children were having a ball.
After a shared meal, each child was given gift cards, paired with an officer, and sent off down the aisles to buy gifts for their family members at home. On October 28th and 29th, 2016, the Red Wing Police Department will host 3ECHO Active Assailant training at Minnesota State College – Southeast (MSC-SE), 308 Pioneer Road, Red Wing. 3ECHO (Enter, Evaluate, Evacuate) is a new integrated response to a hostile situation that allows first responders to get medical personnel on-scene faster thereby reducing morbidity and mortality. The integration is completed as soon as possible during an event response with the goal of providing the ability to rescue viable victims while the response to the hostile event is ongoing.

The City of Red Wing Human Rights Commission is hosting the Tents of Witness: Genocide and Conflict exhibit. This traveling display contains canvas tents that depict the story of a different group that has been persecuted because of its identity: race, religion, ethnicity, or national origin.
These tents depict the catastrophes in Cambodia, Darfur, the Holocaust, and against the Native Americans. GUNS AND HOSES - The Police Department and Fire Department will be battling it out on Sunday, September 11th in a fun filled softball game. The event will be held at the Red Wing Athletic Field starting at 4:00 p.m. with gates opening at 3:00 p.m. Pre-game events will include meet and greet the mascot, emergency vehicle tours, crazy hair booth, peddle cart track, dunk tank and much more.

The Red Wing Police Department will be putting on a Citizen's Academy this fall starting October 13th. The Citizen’s Academy is a community awareness program that offers residents a first hand look at the internal police, fire and emergency management and code enforcement operations. The Academy encompasses a total of 18 hours of presentations from various public safety personnel. Applications are now being taken for the 2016 Academy. Applications can be picked up at the Goodhue County Law Enforcement Center Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or can be downloaded here.
At approximately 10:49 AM on August 15, 2016, Goodhue County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call from visitors in Levee Park of a suspicious package near one of the park benches along the river. Officers responded and noticed a black plastic box (12”L x 6”w x 14”h) sitting on the ground, beside a park bench. The area was taped off and evacuated. In honor of National Police Week, there will be a Peace Officer Memorial Day Service held on May 16th, at 12:00 noon at the Goodhue County Law Enforcement Rotunda. Guest speaker will be Erin Kuester, Assistant Goodhue County Attorney. After the service, refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend the service.
