2017 Spring Yard Waste Clean-up Dates Announced

Residents can dispose of grass, leaves and compostable or organic yard waste year-round FREE OF CHARGE. Residents may also dispose of brush at the brush and compost site at the Solid Waste Management Campus, located at 1873 Bench Street, for a charge. However, these charges are waived for residents from April 22nd thru June 3rd, 2017.  During this time, Red Wing residents may dispose of brush and shrub trimmings free of charge. The hours for the Bench Street compost and yard waste site are:Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.Sundays - CLOSED Special bags …

Special Archery Hunt Approved for 2017

City Council has approved the 2017 special archery hunt, which includes spring turkey hunting (west of Bench Street) and fall deer hunting within specific archery zones in the City Limits. The special archery hunt allows hunters to harvest up to 5 deer each within these archery zones. The program was originally established in the late 1990s in response to citizen complaints of deer-related damage to local gardens, shrubs and trees, as well as traffic safety concerns.  The hunt proved to be an effective way to keep the deer population at a manageable level and has subsequently been ongoing since that time…

Tornado Drills to Take Place on Thursday, April 20

From the Office of Emergency Management: On Thursday April 20th the National Weather Service will be conducting their annual Tornado Awareness drills. All local NWS Offices will be participating with the drills. At 1:00 PM the NWS will sent out a test Tornado Watch Notification to all tone alert weather radios and Emergency Action Messages via TV and Radio. This test will make the radio sound and there will be verbal notifications after the tones. At 1:45PM the NWS will send out a test Tornado Warning to all tone alert radios and EAS Messaging. Red Wing Police Respond to Unconscious Male

On April 18, 2017, at approximately 12:06 AM, officers of the Red Wing Police Department responded to a report of an unconscious male lying on the sidewalk in the 400 Block of Sanderson Street. Upon officers arrival and further investigation, the male individual was determined to be deceased. The incident remains under investigation and the name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification. The Red Wing Police Department was assisted by the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office - Dispatch, Red Wing Fire Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.  Anyone with information…

Downtown Street Lighting Replacement Project

You may have noticed extra work trucks and construction crews in the downtown area recently. Work has begun on the Downtown Street Lighting Replacement Project and the first steps in the process are underway.  The work began with some concrete cutting and removal on north side of the  400 block of Third Street to address the poles along East Avenue by the Library and the poles on the east side of the 200 block of Bush Street.  Some important things to note are: It is anticipated that the work on this system will last approximately two weeks, after which the contractor will move to the sout…
