Invitiation to Attend Old West Main Street Renovation Meeting

Since the completion of the “Renewing Old West Main: A Master Plan” in 2015, the City has been developing strategies and funding support to address off-street parking, pedestrian and bicycling connections to the riverfront, and other actions listed in the plan. No Changes to Solid Waste Campus Services to the Public

The City of Red Wing Public Works Department, Solid Waste Division would like to notify the public that there will be no changes to the Refuse and Recycling schedule for City residents. The normal collection days and time will be followed without interruption of service.  The Solid Waste Campus located at 1873 Bench Street is open to the public during the normal hours of operations, Monday through Friday from 9:00-5:00 and Saturday from 7:00-1:00. Incident Date: June 7, 2017Incident Time: 19:49 (7:49pm)Incident Address: 1873 Bench Street, Red Wing, MN 55066Alarm level: Four Alarms Resources on scene: Eight Engines, Three Ladders, Two Tenders, Five Ambulances, One Battalion Chief and Three Chief Officers.   Total of 70 Firefighters on scene Red Wing fire department received a call of smoke coming from the Red Wing city waste campus building.   Units arrived on scene confirming a working fire and upgraded the fire call to a First Alarm.  Upon entering, the building crews encounter heavy fire condition in the tipping room area. …

Red Wing Solid Waste Campus Fire - Update 9:30 p.m.

The City of Red Wing has an active emergency fire situation at the Red Wing Solid Waste Campus. It is imperative that you avoid the area of 1873 Bench Street to allow for proper response by Red Wing Fire Department personnel. The 4 alarm fire was reported at approximately 7:45 p.m. and reported to be inside the Solid Waste facility which has sustained significant damage. There are no injuries reported. Sixty fire fighters are on scene from four cities. This is still an active scene and you are asked to avoid the area. Refuse and recycling will be picked up at normal times tomorrow, Thursday, June 8, 2017. …

Rubin Drives Home Recycling Message to Kindergartners

Rubin the Blue Bin, Red Wing’s original recycling mascot, recently made 191 new friends. How did he do it? By tagging along with City of Red Wing’s Environmental Officer, Paul Drotos, to the Kindergarten class at Sunnyside Elementary School. Drotos and Rubin enter the classroom every year to teach Kindergartners all about the 3 golden rules of ecology; reduce, reuse, and recycle. Grant Recieved To Evaluate Improvements To Lake Pepin

The Lake Pepin Legacy Alliance (LPLA) is an organization that actively promotes actions to improve the ecological conditions in Lake Pepin.  Much of their recent efforts have focused on the impacts from the suspended solids that are carried into the lake from the upstream Mississippi and Minnesota River Watersheds.  These solids are deposited in the upper reaches of the Lake, and have drastically reduced the water depth, and destroyed aquatic weed beds and marshes. Wind generated waves tend to re-suspend these sediments, which increases the water turbidity and reduces the depth that sunlight ca…
