There will be an opportunity for the public to learn more about the status of the Mississippi National Golf Links Study Project and to provide additional input to the Study Team at an Open House scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in the Foot Room of the Red Wing Public Library. The Study Team will be in attendance to provide an update on the project and to listen to additional citizen feedback. The Open House will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a short presentation at 5:30 p.m.
Background: The Red Wing City Council recently decided to close Mississippi National Golf Links (except for the driving range) for the 2013 golf season. This decision was made primarily because the City has initiated litigation to resolve issues related to the former lease of the golf course with the former operator and issues related to the litigation were not resolved in time for the 2013 season. The City will spend the next few months exploring long-term options for use of the property with Red Wing citizens. During 2013, the course will be maintained to a minimum level so that it can be opened in 2014 without major additional damage to the fairways and greens.
The City has hired a professional consultant team, led by Jeff Schoenbauer with Schoenbauer Consulting LLC of Minneapolis, to facilitate gathering data and information from the community and other professional sources in order to develop a Study Report that will help lay out viable long term options for the golf course property. The Study Team was in Red Wing on May 20th and May 22nd and gathered information and conducted interviews with stakeholder organizations and individuals. The June 12th Public Open House is another opportunity for citizens to become involved in the study process.
