Mayor Egan Proclaims May 5th as Cinco de Mayo Celebration Day

Cinco de Mayo Celebration Day


WHEREAS, the 5th of May is the anniversary of an important victory of Mexican soldiers against the French Army in 1862 and represents an event of great civic pride for peoples of Mexican origin; and

WHEREAS, the community of Red Wing is home for approximately 1,000 people of Mexican ancestry; and

WHEREAS, the 5th of May, or Cinco de Mayo has become a celebration of Mexican food, music and culture across the United States; and

WHEREAS, Red Wing's own quality of life is enhanced by the richness and beauty of the Hispanic culture.  

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That I, Dennis Egan, Mayor of Red Wing, Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Thursday, May 5, 2011 as Cinco de Mayo Celebration Day in Red Wing, Minnesota and do urge all citizens of Red Wing to participate in the celebratory activities scheduled for that day at St. Joseph's Church in Red Wing.
