HBC to extend fiber optic network to Red Wing
Wednesday, July 7 2010 12:00 AM
Hiawatha Broadband Communications (HBC) announced at a press conference this morning that they will be extending its fiber-optic network from Wabasha to Red Wing. The City of Red Wing and the Red Wing Port Authority have been in discussions for many years with the Winona based company and are excited for what the future holds for the Red Wing community. "This is a vitally important tool for the business community." said Myron White, Executive Director of the Red Wing Port Authority.
The Red Wing City Council has consistently supported a partnership with Hiawatha Broadband Communications with the hope that HBC could offer core services of Internet, television and telephone to our residents, businesses and governmental agencies. Additionally, City officials, while researching many possible solutions, have concluded that HBC provides the optimum solution in reaching our goal of ultra high-speed broadband for all.
While HBC's announcement included plans to offer services to governmental agencies and the business community, they have not yet made the decision to bring fiber optics to residents. Gary Evans, President and CEO of HBC believes that will be a natural next step.
