Former Mayor Donna Dummer Awarded Amos Owen Award

dummerThe Amos Owen Award was given to former mayor Donna Dummer September 11. Human Rights Commission (HRC) Chair Kirsten Fridell explained the history of the award, named for a Prairie Island elder and cultural leader. The award is given annually to honor someone who has demonstrated an active commitment to human rights in Red Wing.

 Dan Guida nominated Dummer and spoke of her accomplishments. Dummer served as a member of the Goodhue County Welfare Board, Fairview Auxiliary, Youth Outreach Board, Chairperson and leader of Red Wing Girl Scouts, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Youth Service Coalition, Goodhue County Food Shelf, Young Life Board, a guardian ad litem for children and is active in her church and the Environmental Learning Center. She also worked for the Red Wing School District as an activities coordinator, facilitator and mentorship leader at the high school and on the Natural Helpers program. 

 While serving as mayor, Dummer was a strong advocate for and supporter of the HRC. Dummer has spent many years serving the community working for equal rights and positive change for all, particularly for at-risk young people and children.2009-12-072009-12-07
