Do You Pay Your Utility Bill at Your Bank's Website?

Friday, January 28 2011 12:00 AM

Most banks offer on-line bill payment options. You may have already used this service yourself. But do you really know how it works? If you aren't aware of how your bank processes your on-line requests, your payment could still arrive late.

When you initiate an on-line bill payment for your utility bill, your bank prints a check and mails it to us from one of their processing centers around the U.S. The City can not consider your bill "paid" until we actually receive the bank check. Therefore, you may need to allow 7 to 10 days for payment to reach us. Please be sure to consider this fact when initiating your on-line payment and you can avoid any late payment penalties.

Did you know that the City of Red Wing does offer you a FREE service that is guaranteed to pay your bill on-time? The City can automatically deduct the amount of your bill payment from your designated bank account. You will still receive a copy of your bill monthly, but payment will occur automatically on the due date. Stop by the Public Works Office at 229 Tyler Road North or call us at 651-385-3659 to request an Auto-Pay form, or click here for an electronic version. It only takes a moment to ensure that your bill is paid on-time every month, even when you're busy or away from home.
