Council Accepts a Complimentary Phase I Roundabout Analysis for the Intersection of Featherstone Road and Tile Drive

The City Council approved accepting the complimentary Phase I Roundabout Analysis at the Monday, January 24, 2011 Council meeting. City staff had won a drawing for the complimentary Phase I Roundabout Analysis from Bonestroo engineering at an intersection to be chosen by the City. The complimentary analysis includes completing a General Roundabout Site Selection Checklist, Roundabout Concept Layout drawing, preliminary cost estimates, approximate right-of-way needs, and whether or not the intersection is a good candidate for a Roundabout. City staff reviewed multiple intersections as candidates for the analysis and chose the intersection of Featherstone Road and Tile Drive as the recommendation for Council approval because it is currently an all way stop condition, has fairly high traffic counts (Featherstone Road - 5,200 ADT west, 4,600 ADT east; Tile Drive - 3,950 ADT), both streets are State Aid Streets, layout of the intersection would require little right-of-way acquisition, and future development to the south will eventually add another street leg to the intersection with dedicated right-of-way and a portion of the intersection requiring reconstruction at that time.
The City isn't planning to construct any Roundabouts at this time; only the Phase I analysis has been approved by Council to date. Please contact Director of Engineering Ron Rosenthal at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
