The first annual Chinese New Year celebration at Southeast Technical College came to a successful conclusion on February 17, 2011. It featured authentic Chinese food prepared by the students from the Chinese culture club, under the advice and leadership of Yanmei Jiang and Tao Peng. The celebration also featured demonstrations of Chinese calligraphy, brush painting, Taichi, as well as performances of traditional Chinese music instruments, such as Pipa and Erhu.
An estimated number of three hundred people attended the celebration, including students, staff, and citizens.
Tao Peng, employee at Southeast Tech and Chairman of the Red Wing Sister Cities Commission said, "This event also included the display of various Chinese cultural items, some of which were on loan from the Red Wing Sister Cities Commission.
The celebrations purpose was to raise cultural awareness on the Southeast Technical College campus and in the community.
