"Beyond Recycling..." - A Presentation for Earth Month on 4/26

Tuesday, April 24 2012 12:00 AM

Simple Abundance will be hosting Madalyn Cioci from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency on Thursday night, April 26th, from 7:00-8:00 pm. The discussion will take place in the classroom above the store. Her topic of discussion will be "Beyond Recycling: Why it’s Time to Take the Next Step."

When you think resource conservation, do you think "don’t chop down that tree" or "borrow a drill from a neighbor"? When you think energy conservation do you think "buy a hybrid" or do you think "getting my coat zipper fixed"? Join us for a lively discussion of why it’s time to go beyond recycling and take our clutter seriously.

Madalyn Cioci from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will take the audience through a wide ranging presentation about why the mantra is "reduce, reuse, recycle" in that order, about what is going on in the world with our natural material resources, and how our brain messes with us when we buy things. You’ll end with the opportunity to consider what you want out of your life and how preventing waste can help you get it! Madalyn Cioci works in the Waste and Toxic Pollution Prevention Unit at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Her primary focus is helping people -- at home or at work or at school -- reduce consumption and prevent waste and pollution. Her current efforts include administering the Retiree Environmental Technical Assistance Program and working to encourage and measure reuse in Minnesota.
