City of Red Wing Supports United Way

City of Red Wing employees raised $12,188.23, or 102% percent of its $12,000 goal, this year for United Way of Goodhue, Wabasha and Pierce Counties. Most of the money was donated through employee payroll deductions, but $644.75 was raised with the sales of chili, brats and baked goods at the annual city of Red Wing Internal United Way Chili Cook-off. United Way committee member Patti Schmidt said, “Every year, city employees get together to choose the best chili amongst departments. Everything was donated; the chili by the employees who cooked it, brats and buns by employees and Kwik Trip on Seventh Street and baked goods by employees, with all proceeds donated to United Way.” City Administrator Kay Kuhlmann said “ it is deeply satisfying for me, as the manager of an organization who has lost nearly 20% of the labor force, to see employees give at this level. Our employees again, have proven that they care about this community through their service and through their generosity.”

Congratulations to the Police Department team of Karen Stemmann, Janelle Ahern, Craig Lunde, Darold Glander and Tim Sletten for winning the 2009 City of Red Wing Internal United Way Chili Cook-Off.  The team also took first place for the People's Choice Award in the amateur division at the United Way Community Wide Chili Cook-Off October 29 with their Police Beat Chili.
