Roads Re-Open, River Levels Recede

Spring Hydrant Flushing Delayed

The City of Red Wing Public Works Department was scheduled to begin flushing hydrants on June 9th.   Due to unforeseen delays in the scheduled maintenance of the Hiawatha Hills Reservoir, the hydrant flushing has been postponed until early this fall.   Residents will be notified prior to the fall flushing when the dates have been finalized. If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 651-385-3674.  

Highway #63 Bridge Project - Listening Session #5

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) are hosting a fifth public listening session for the Red Wing Bridge Project.  The project includes the Highway 63 (Eisenhower) Bridge over the Mississippi River and the Highway 63 Bridge over Highway 61, as well as the approach roadways on both sides of the river. Red Wing Firefighter Paramedics Respond to Barn Bluff for a Possible Fall Victim

On the afternoon of Tuesday May 20 at 1225pm, City of Red Wing staff reported a possible fall victim on Barn Bluff. It was reported that a backpack was found off the trail on the north side of the bluff. The soil around the backpack was disturbed as if someone had slipped over the steep embankment.  Red Wing Fire and Police Department personnel responded to the top and bottom of Barn Bluff to conduct a victim search and prepare for possible victim extrication.  Red Wing Fire Department personnel utilized technical rescue equipment and techniques to rappel down the north face of the bluff and conduc…

HRA Receives Drug Training

Officers Jeff Burbank and Adam Crain gave the staff of the HRA training in the various illegal substances that they may see in Red Wing on May 19, 2014.    The HRA requested this training so as to be able to recognize more quickly any illegal drug use in its housing units and programs.  The HRA is dedicated to a drug-free housing policy and will terminate leases based upon illegal drug use.

The Performance Measures Program In 2010, the Minnesota Legislature created the Council on Local Results and Innovation. In February 2011, the Council released a standard set of ten performance measures for cities that will aid residents, taxpayers, and state and local elected officials in determining the efficacy of cities in providing services and measure residents' opinions of those services. National Police Week Proclamation in Red Wing

The week of May 11th, 2014, has been proclaimed by Mayor  Bender as  National Police Week in Red Wing.  In honor of National Police Week, there will be a Peace Officer Memorial Day Service held on May 15th, at 1:00 pm at the Goodhue County Law Enforcement Lobby.  Guest speaker will be Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Wilhelmina Wright.   After the service, refreshments will be served.  The public is invited to attend this service. 

Community Development Grant Program

The Red Wing Housing and Redevelopment Authority Board of Commissioners approved a Community Development Grant Program at its regular Board meeting on May 13, 2014.  The Community Development Grant Program is open to 501 c 3 non-profit organizations. The 2014 allocation was set at $40,000 with a maximum grant amount of $20,000 per application.  Examples of eligible grant purposes are for equipment for use by the applicant; office furniture, appliances, desks, tables; rehabilitation of buildings owned by the applicant; pass-through funding for activities that develop the community.  See the…

Road Closure due to High Water

UPDATE 5/14/14:  Due to recent rain events, water levels remain high enough that road closures issued on 4/30/14 remain in effect.    4/30/14 - Due to high water levels, Levee Road between Jackson Street and Red Wing Grain, and Sturgeon Lake Road towards the boat landing, will be CLOSED today (4/30/14).  In addition, Ikata Drive will close sometime on Thursday or Friday depending on how fast the water rises.   These areas will remain closed for the weekend.     Lynn Nardinger, Deputy DirectorPublic Works Department
