Chemical Health Initiative (CHI) is excited to announce a town hall event coming up April 9th at 6:00 PM at the Red Wing High School Auditorium. The event is a public forum regarding problem people face related to mental health and substance abuse. Speakers include a recovering addict and an immediate family member of the recovering addict, local youth, law enforcement, mental health professionals and more! City Council Workshop - Storm Water Management - There will be a City Council Workshop in the Council Chambers on Monday, April 7 at 6:00 to discuss several aspects of the City's Storm Water Management Program. Topics that will be discussed include implications of the recently issued storm water discharge permit, the draft Storm Water Management Plan, several planned storm water related projects and status of the storm water fund. Red Wing, Mn — On March 27, 2014 at approximately 4:38 AM the Red Wing Police Department responded to a report of front porch lights on fire at 465 11th Street. Red Wing Fire Department also responded and extinguished the fire. Officers made contact with the resident of 465 11th Street and identified him as Cory Koplin. Koplin was on the porch area of the home, carrying a butane torch and threatening to set the house on fire. Koplin then retreated into his home and stopped communicating with officers. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Conservation Corps of Minnesota in cooperation with the City of Red Wing and the Red Wing School District will be conducting several controlled prescribed burns of the native prairies on Barn Bluff and the Billings-Tomfohr Conservation Area on March 29th. The purpose of the burns is to reduce invasive species in these areas and to stimulate existing native plants. These burns are the first steps of a long range management plan to preserve and enhance these native prairie communities within Red Wing.

One of Red Wing’s polling places has been changed and will take effect starting with the 2014 Primary Election. The change is for Ward 4, Precinct 1. Voters who previously voted at Colvill Courtyard will now be voting at Jordan Towers II, 440 West Fifth Street. Entry to the polling place at Jordan Towers II will be gained from the Fifth Street entrance by voters using the ramp into the lower level. Registered voters living in the above affected ward and precinct will be sent a notice from the Secretary of State’s office advising them of their polling place change.

The City of Red Wing Public Works Department will be CLOSING a portion of West 6th Street beginning immediately for the repair of a private water service. The area affected is the portion of West 6th Street between Plum and Potter Street and will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the project.
The works is being done by a private contractor and the closure is expected to last approximately three days, weather permitting. The road will be reopened as soon as the work has been completed. Traffic control will be in place. Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area.

Broad Street will be closed at the railroad crossing north of Levee Street beginning at 8:00am on Tuesday, March 25 and will remain closed until approximately 4:00pm on Wednesday, March 26. Canadian Pacific Railroad crews will be repairing rail at the crossing and reinstalling crossing panels. Traffic control will be in place and work crews appreciate the cooperation and patience of neighbors, drivers and pedestrians during this time of inconvenience.
Motorists are encouraged to stay alert and drive carefully through all work zones and use alternate routes whenever possible.
