MPCA Puts Red Wing's New Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan on Public Notice

On January 14, 2014 the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency  (MPCA) put Red Wing’s new Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) on public notice. For thirty days, citizens or concerned parties can provide feedback to the MPCA about Red Wing’s newest plan to prevent runoff pollution from entering into the waters of the state.  This is important because without a permit, Red Wing could not discharge the millions of gallons of stormwater runoff that flows into the Mississippi River every time that it rains. Statewide ban on Coal Tar Sealcoats

Moving to safer alternatives to coal tar sealcoats Statewide ban now in effect in Minnesota Effective January 1, 2014, the sales and use of coal tar-based sealcoats are banned in Minnesota. See Minnesota Statutes section 116.202. The ban will minimize the unnecessary release of harmful and persistent chemicals into your and your neighbors’ environment. Red Wing Highway 63 Bridge Structure Type Selected

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced that a new river bridge structure type for the Highway 63 crossing at Red Wing has been selected to move forward into the environmental review phase of the project.  Community stakeholders will be invited in the near future to assist in guiding the design of the visual elements of the bridge. Portion of Levee Road Closed beginning 1/28/14

The City of Red Wing Public Works Department will be closing a portion of Levee Road on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 for sewer cleaning.  The area affected is the portion between Jackson Street and Broad Street.  Access will be limited to local traffic, with thru traffic prohibited. This closure is expected to last approximately one week, reopening as soon as the work has been completed.  Traffic control will be in place. Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area. City Offices Closed January 20th, Refuse & Recycling Collection Information

City offices will be closed on Monday, January 20th, 2014 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  City Hall, Public Works and the Solid Waste Campus will all be closed on Monday.  All offices will be open the remainder of the week during their regular business hours.
