Nite to Unite in Red Wing

The 2013 Nite to Unite event will be held on Tuesday, August 6th.   Nite to Unite is a community event that helps people connect with other residents in their neighborhood in an effort to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.   The community event also stresses the importance of reporting suspicious activity in neighborhoods.  Police Officers, Firefighters and Public Works Personnel, as well as City Council members, will attend block parties throughout Red Wing.  Neighborhoods will also collect food for the Red Wing  Area Food Shelf. Bituminous Street Overlay Project Update

Work continues on the construction of bituminous milling, bituminous reclamation, bituminous pavement overlay and other appurtenant construction on several streets and parking lots in Red Wing.  These streets will have flaggers, lane closures in both directions, and traffic interruptions at various stages of construction. Added Speed Patrols for July

The posted speed is the speed limit, and Red Wing Police Department, along with AREA LAW ENFORCEMENT, are emphasizing the need to drive at safe speeds through accelerated speed patrols, July 6–21. The enforcement and education effort is coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety.  Unsafe and illegal speed is the most commonly reported contributing factor in fatal crashes. East 5th Street Closing RESCHEDULED

Due to a scheduling conflict with the Canadian Pacific Railroad, the closing of East Fifth Street has been rescheduled FROM July 16, 2013 TO July 23, 2013 to allow Lunda Construction Company of Black River Falls, Wisconsin the time necessary to construct the main line superstructure roll in of Bridge No. 25606 under the Canadian Pacific railroad over East Fifth Street, adjacento Xcel Energy Steam Plant in Red Wing. Red Wing Public Library Hires New Director

The Red Wing Public Library Board and the City of Red Wing announces the appointment of a new director, Jessica McGee.  McGee comes from Wendell, North Carolina as the Adult Services Librarian in the Granville County Library System in Oxford North Carolina. Red Wing Fire Department Responds to Garage Fire

On 07/01/2013 at 10:55 p.m., the Red Wing Fire Department received a call reporting a structure fire at 518 Bluff St. Firefighter/paramedics were on scene within four minutes of receiving the call. Initial knockdown of the fire was accomplished by the first arriving engine staffed by two personnel due to the main fire engine being at the scene of a car accident. The fire was contained to the garage and contents along with a small amount of charring to the exterior of the adjacent home. No one was in the garage at the time of the fire and all occupants of the home got out safely. There were no injuries …
